In brief

DGUV Regulation 70 is the statutory accident insurance regulation on accident prevention for vehicles. It requires companies to have vehicles used for business inspected by a competent person at least once a year.

What Does the Regulation Cover?

It applies to companies that use vehicles for business and sets requirements for their condition, operation, and inspection. The most important part for fleets is the recurring inspection duty that gives rise to the UVV inspection. It also regulates aspects of operation, such as maneuvering and working on vehicles.

Which Vehicles Does It Apply To?

All vehicles used as part of business activities, regardless of size or powertrain. A company car used by field staff is covered, as are vans, trailers, and pool vehicles. Electric vehicles also bring requirements relating to high-voltage systems.

What Does This Mean for Fleet Administration?

The regulation is a legal standard issued by the employers' liability insurance associations and serves as a benchmark when claims arise. After a workplace accident involving a vehicle, proof of inspection is routinely requested. For a fleet, inspection dates therefore belong in the same deadline overview as periodic technical inspections and lease end dates, and the evidence must be retrievable for each individual vehicle.
