Driver's license checks: How flexible AZOWO is in checking driver's licenses
The edding brand initially had little presence in the fleet context. However, it gained increasing recognition through its driver's license checks. Azowo has now taken over this control function.
In November, fleet service provider AZOWO acquired the edding Group's easycheck driver's license verification system. This sophisticated version (without an app and therefore with relatively little data), which requires considerable effort to operate, expands the cloud-based offering of the fleet software provider from Biberach. “This acquisition is a logical step, as we have an all-in-one platform for fleet management,” explains Patric Schneider, CEO of AZOWO GmbH. In our interview, he reveals what further consequences the acquisition will have and how it came about.
Mr. Schneider, how did you come into contact with edding? The easycheck digital driver's license exam was only launched four years ago, after two years of research.
Patric Schneider: We were already familiar with easycheck. We had been following the development of the solution for several years at trade fairs and maintained regular contact with those responsible. This led to early considerations about a possible integration via an interface. Concrete discussions about the acquisition then took place in May 2025 via Florian Heinemann from Project A, who brought this strategic opportunity to our attention.
What distinguishes easycheck from other digital driver's license exam options on the market?
P. Schneider: easycheck has three key unique selling points: First, it is easy to implement. No installation or app is required, and customer data can be integrated via bulk upload. Second, the data protection concept. The verification label does not function as a data storage device; no driver's license data is read, only the name and email address are required. Third, flexibility. The check can be carried out at any time and from any location using a standard smartphone.
AZOWO offers many customized options for driver's license verification. Which type is most commonly used by AZOWO customers?
P. Schneider: Driver's license verification via app or web is our most frequently used verification solution: drivers simply photograph their driver's license using the smartphone app, and the data is automatically recorded and submitted for administrative review. It is quick, straightforward, and available at any time. However, what truly sets AZOWO apart is our flexibility, which is achieved through five different, freely combinable verification mechanisms. We know that every company has different requirements: warehouse workers without email access use our scanner directly on site, while sales staff who are constantly on the road enjoy maximum flexibility with the app – regardless of their location.
The cloud functions as a location-independent solution, and this is also the case for you.
P. Schneider: Exactly. The AZOWO Mobility Cloud forms the basis for this flexibility and makes it possible to precisely map individual requirements. Different user groups, locations, or situations require different approaches, which is why we offer flexible combinations of scanners, apps, RFID, or manual checks by responsible persons. Whether it's a large company with multiple locations, international employees abroad, or different processes in different places, every company is unique, and we have the individual solution for every use case.
How is easycheck integrated into the existing AZOWO fleet management software?
P. Schneider: Easycheck will continue to exist as a standalone solution and will be continuously developed—for example, work is currently underway on an SSO development. At the same time, an integrated version is being created that will enable easycheck to be used seamlessly within the AZOWO software. Integration into the AZOWO system and the development of new features are being intensively pursued in order to offer both flexibility and maximum functionality.
