Talks: Damage management in the vehicle fleet: What the law and regulations require

Damage management is not just a question of how and who – but also why.

Accidents, damage or maintenance issues not only affect the operational readiness of your vehicles – they are also regulated by law.

This is what the law requires:

ArbSchG: Employers must assess hazards (e.g. posed by vehicles), take measures and document them (Sections 3, 5, 6).

DGUV Regulation 70: Vehicles must be inspected annually (Section 57), drivers must carry out visual inspections (Section 36), and everything must be recorded in writing – otherwise fines of up to €10,000 may be imposed (Section 58).

StVG & labour law: Companies are liable for damages (Section 7), employees are obliged to report damage immediately (duty of loyalty).
